If possible it's best to decide on a philosophy of education before deciding on curriculum or methods. Your homeschool approach will be determined by your philosophy. Whether you are in the US or another country, if homeschooling is legal then there is a legal organziation available to support your journey. Know your rights! Seek out the legal associations! HSLDA is in the US. HEFA is in the UK. 

Once you have determined your schedule, it's time to figure out where the extra fun will fit in. Do your children love sports? gaming?art? writing? dance?What kind of fieldtrips sound interesting? It's fun! Don't stress, but also don't overcommit!
